Vowel Movement: The First Anniversary Show May 25, 2004
Posted by onemouthband in : Randomnimity , add a commentIt was a year ago that the One Mouth Band stuck a toe in the SF beatbox scene by performing at the very first Vowel Movement Beatbox Salon. Since then the movement has grown too big for the Exit Theater, expanding first to a monthly slot at Studio Z, then at Ashkenaz in addition to Studio Z. Next, THE WORLD! Or at least a first annivarsary show…
This month will feature Chicago’s beatbox theater man Yuri Lane, the SF Chronicle’s pick for “Best Beatboxer” Kid Beyond, Vowel Movement co-founder Process, Infinate and Soulati from Felonius, breakdance/beatbox collaborations, and appearances by a number of the regulars, including the One Mouth Band.
Come experience The Vowel Movement in all it’s glory 8PM Tuesday night, June 1st at Studio Z. No one turned away for being poor.
Return from Paradise May 23, 2004
Posted by onemouthband in : Randomnimity , add a commentIt is said that Maui either takes in and loves or “spits out” its visitors. Curious stories abound of folks who, for one reason or another, simply can’t do anything right on its soil. This is balanced by people whose experiences are like Sam and Mary’s…pure magic!
The One Mouth Band is now back from his island adventures, and is already plotting his return.
Shining at the Diamond Lil Review May 17, 2004
Posted by onemouthband in : Randomnimity , add a commentLast weekend the One Mouth Band was invited to participate in the 22nd annual Diamond Lil Review, a community/school theater production at Baldwin High School in Kahului (Maui), Hawaii. The students and volunteers are given a theme and the daunting task of creating the script, music, choreography, sets, and everything needed for the month-long run of the show in one week of panic and inspiration. They succeeded in pulling off a highly entertaining show, and were very thankful to be able to pull in a professional like the One Mouth Band for their opening weekend! Thanks to all the new fans on Maui!
Mana’o from Heaven! May 5, 2004
Posted by onemouthband in : Randomnimity , add a commentLast Friday’s live on-air performance for Mana’o Radio was a wild success! Many new fans, including the station’s manager, phoned the station as Sam flew like an eagle through his 20-minute set. Among the songs of praises came an invitation for the One Mouth Band to be a prized feature in the weekly Club Mana’o broadcast, a two-hour radio show that is the flagship program of the station! So now get ready for a full two hours of solo a cappella goodness this Sunday night! Hey, 100% organic, human sound does your ear good, why not have a healthy helping? Sam is inspired to live up to the standard set by Club Mana’o: “The idea is to play music as art, not to play music to sell records or to promote people’s careers.”
Maui locals probably already know to tune to 91.5 from 5-7PM. For those of you who are “off-island”, tune your computer to ManaoRadio.com at the appropriate hour and join the 10,000 to 15,000 listeners enjoying the music of the One Mouth Band! (For those back home on the West Coast, this is from 8-10PM, and for anybody listening from Greenwich it’s 6-8 AM Monday morning.) Aloha, and mahalo Mana’o!
