Back to a Mac November 28, 2006
Posted by onemouthband in : Mac, Tech , add a comment
The first computer I ever had was an Apple IIgs. Technically, this was before there even were Macs (they were still just Apples). One day something about it broke and I ended up in PC-land, where things were cheaper. I took a class on building your own computers, and spent the next 5 years with computer parts around my room and 2-4 computers in various states of disrepair. Then I got a job at a music production company and had a chance to work with Macs again. A year or two later I found myself working at a mortgage company (where I still work now), as you can guess they don’t do Mac.
Now, for the very first time in my life, I’m buying the top of the line model of something. Seriously, I have never paid for the best of anything. I buy things used, I buy things new but 2 or 3 steps down from the best…but not this time. There’s a MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 17″ 2.33GHz 2GB 160GB coming in the mail with my name on it!
Look for plenty more postings in the near future about how this is going for me. I’ll be making plenty of well-researched and personally-tested recommendations as usual. Feel free to learn from my mistakes and benefit from my often overly-enthusiastic research.

Lemme guess, you need a website too? November 22, 2006

Check out my quickie page at SnapSynapse.com. I assure you that your site will look much better than this. Unfortunately, all my best work lies behind the corporate firewall of my employer, GreenPoint Mortgage.

This promises to be an awesome show! Special guests include Rhiannon, Faye Carroll, Destani Wolfe, Joey Blake, Dave Ellis, and more. Last year I did this show as a last-minute, not-so-featured guest. This time, I’m part of the core group on every number with a featured solo on Bobby McFerrin’s “Sweet in the Morning”. Come for either show and I guarantee you’ll have a blast!

Joe’s Goals are Your Goals November 13, 2006
Posted by onemouthband in : Productivity, Recommendations, Web Schtuff , add a commentJoesGoals.com is a marvelously simply little way to keep track of how you’re doing on meeting your daily goals, and it’s free! You can make it more complex if you choose by assigning different positive or negative point values to your tasks, as I have done over time.
Just starting off simply is probably best, and here are some examples of the most common things other people are tracking there now. I dare you to try it for a week and see how much more you get done just because you’re reminded.

Voting Irrationally November 7, 2006
Posted by onemouthband in : Inspiries, Notes to Self, Randomnimity , add a commentToday I voted alright, like I’ve done every chance I got since I turned 18 with one accidental exception: last time. This time I learned from my poor planning (leaving home before the polls open and returning after midnight makes it difficult to vote) and went absentee. It’s nice to be able to turn your ballot in at ANY polling place in the county!
I also was strangely detached from the process this time, and I got a little erratic. I researched less than I ever have. I paid no attention to any glossy ad, radio spot, or TV commercial. I left all the judges blank because I couldn’t figure out what their records were or what they stood for. I voted for a bond measure for what I think is the first time ever. Most importantly, I voted for what I wanted rather than against who I don’t. My votes weren’t wasted, because this time I did vote! Last time I didn’t vote, and that was obviously a waste.
I always seem to vote for losers anyway. What difference does it make if I vote for this loser or that one? I’ll tell you what difference it makes — I feel better about it. I simply don’t have any control over who ends up in office (I can’t even say if my vote will be counted!), but I can say who and what I’m putting my energy toward. That gives me a far more comfortable attitude and more positive feeling about the whole voting process. I think this is the first time I’ve ever voted without getting all upset about it. Regardless of the outcome, I must say I enjoy the result!
