Burning Success! September 9, 2007
Posted by onemouthband in : Music, One Mouth Band, Travels , add a commentI had some great musical adventures at Burning Man this year, as predicted. Here’s a few highlights:
- our Acapplaya concert at Center Camp being (nearly) interrupted by the Critical Cocks March
- singing with Acapplaya at a touching engagement ceremony, then later a full on wedding where I led a CircleSong to open
- belting out my part of a duet with Breann Petree on Stevie Wonder’s “Heaven Help Us All” at Madi’s Non-Denominational Sunday Service & Gospel Sing
- One Mouth Band mobile looping shows at Little Havana and impromtu locations all over the place
- dozens of incredibly fun Acapplaya guerrilla singing events at random camps all over the playa
- playing TaKeTiNa Pied Piper on morning with Lisa Engels, attracting burners to dance and clap along as we walked up 8 o’clock, playing berimbau and surdo in a 3 over 5 rhythm.
- some incredible drum circles / percussion jams at Center Camp
- a blowout closing show with Acapplaya at Little Havana
- an anti-clamatic Acapplaya show at the Tsunami stage “opening for Mutatytor”
- assisting with the Playa Kwaya rehearsals, leading/coleading CircleSongs daily
Here’s some pics:

My new buddy Eric “Erawk” Freeman also has a couple great posts on his blog about his take on Burning Man, Acapplaya, and our Playa Kwaya. Check it out, he rocks!
It’s hard for me to describe why I love Burning Man so. I am not your typical Burner by any measure, but suffice it to say that going renews my hope for the world. For all who have never been and don’t know what it’s all about, I can sum it up by saying:
Whatever you are into, there’s a lot of it at Burning Man!

In the picture below, I’m the one in the back with the red handkerchief and no shirt on (it was hot!). See the full article here.
