The good news is that the first of the SoVoSo Holiday Seasonings Concerts on December 5th is now sold out. The bad news is that I again did not get quite enough tickets for my friends before this happened. Our 10PM show at Yoshi’s Jazz House will have just as many special guests, including: Joey Blake, Nicolas Bearde, Ashling Cole, Rhiannon, Linda Tillery, PC Muñoz, The Oakland Youth Chorus, Arts First Oakland CircleSingers Choir, Young Performers International, and more. It promises to be an outrageously fun time, so get your ticket if you haven’t yet, because the 10PM show can sell out too!
Simple rule for eyglasses November 26, 2007
Posted by onemouthband in : Notes to Self , add a commentAfter nearly crushing them for the umpteenth time, it finally donned on me:
Never set your glasses where an ass or foot may later be.
Simple, visual, memorable, and (let’s hope) effective. This last pair of glasses are still not completely broken, but I’ve been told by LensCrafters that they will no longer adjust them for fear of breaking them in the process. My sunglasses are in even sorrier shape. I’m getting new pairs of each with the last of my flexible spending account money, and I pray my new rule keeps them around in one piece for a while.
Stuff on purpose November 25, 2007
Posted by onemouthband in : Randomnimity, Recommendations , add a commentEvery year people get me stuff I don’t want because they feel they have to get me something for the holidays. Has this ever happened to you? Have I ever done that to you? Oops, sorry!
This year I vow to stop the cycle of senseless stuff by getting people items of service and intention. Usually I have a new CD or other One Mouth Band marketing item to mass distribute, but due to miscalculations with the upcoming SoVoSo and Irrationals albums, I have no music to give for 2007 (look for them both in 2008!). Instead, most everybody is getting one of these babies! I don’t mind ruining the surprise because they’re not the kind of thing people tend to get all flustered about anyway. But they are useful, cool, intentional, ecological, and just plain logical. That’s my bag, baby.
And there will be gift certificates, plenty of gift certificates. Not the kind that encourages you buy more crap, though, the kind you can eat. Like those from Restaurant.com that you can often buy at somewhat of a discount and create the impression that you’re slightly more generous than you actually are (that’s not such a bad thing, is it?)
As for stuff for me, I am running out of time on my New Year’s Resolution to end the year with twice as much money and half as much stuff. Check out my Froogle list for things I actually want. Or do something crazy like invite me to dinner instead!
Happy Holidaze to all, and to all stuff on purpose!
Five email options November 20, 2007

My proclivity for productivity pr0n led me to this simple rule for handling my email with effective and decisive speed. I think I first heard about it a while ago from Merlin Mann and his Inbox Zero concept, but I only recently started incorporating it.
- Delete: just get rid of it (or archive it)
- Delegate: get someone else to deal with it
- Respond: if it takes just a few minutes, do it right now
- Defer: put it on a todo list, archive it, and deal with it later
- Do: handle whatever the email actually needs you to do
Wow does it work! It’s true that I still find myself spinning out into email distraction from time to time, but this approach has really cut down on it. Oh, and on that #3 Respond bit, check out five.sentanc.es for a great way to streamline your response!

Posted by onemouthband in : Music, SoVoSo , add a commentIt’s almost time for the 6th Annual SoVoSo Holiday Seasonings Concert at Yoshi’s Jazz House! This year’s special guests include: Joey Blake, Nicolas Bearde, Ashling Cole, Rhiannon, Linda Tillery, PC Muñoz, The Oakland Youth Chorus, Arts First Oakland CircleSingers Choir, Young Performers International, and more!
I’m very excited to be singing with all these amazing folks on this legendary stage. If last year was any indication, we’re gonna blow the roof off the place. These shows do sell out every year, so get your tickets early. It’s $16 for the 8PM show and just $10 for the 10PM. Come on down to Jack London Square on December 5th for two fabulous family shows!
